Google Chrome

September started with a major splash, as Google released its new browser, Chrome. The release of Chrome is a decisive challenge to Microsoft's Internet Explorer, who's dominance over the web browser market has yet to be significantly challenged. Unlike the myriad of sparsely used browsers, Chrome's true strength lies in Google's prominence over the web market.

The beta launch of Chrome shows significant promise. Chrome has a number of new features (many of which build on already popular browser technology). Two of the more interesting features are tabs that run independently, and Incognito Mode. Tabbed browsing is nothing new - first popularized by Opera and Mozilla, and perhaps developed by IBrowse - however, Chrome's take on the tabbed browsing trend, was to make each tab an independent process. This technique enables each tab to achieve optimum performance, and even more importantly, prevents the entire application from crashing when one of the tabs encounters an issue.

The other new feature is Incognito Mode. Other browsers offer similar technology, but Chrome's Incognito Mode seems to offer a few additional perks. Incognito Mode essentially allows the user to browse the internet without leaving a history of where they have been. All browser history, cookies, and downloaded files are deleted once the browser window is closed. This is an interesting advantage for those who use public computers, and don't want their where abouts to be known.

Thank you again for the great work. We will be managing a project to redesign our Web Check-in application next, and when I have graphics work, you're the first person I'm contacting.
